The original aim of the blog was to promote discussion about all and any facet of progressive rock but from time to time, bands and musicians contact ProgBlog with new prog-related material that they want to expose to a wider audience; ProgBlog's album of 2017 An Invitation by Amber Foil was one such approach.
The range of styles ProgBlog has been exposed to through this route has helped to expand and challenge my listening habits but time constraints have meant that not all submissions have received the attention that they deserve.
The DISCovery section has been introduced to better serve the requirements of musicians who contact ProgBlog with the aim of increasing the audience for their music; without music there can be no discussion of music.
“It was time to enter Pork Sausage studios again, Easter 2016. Volume two in the trilogy Cleaning the Mirror was about to be crafted. A couple of months prior to this record date I had kept myself busy writing songs. This time writing seamed totally effortless; as I sat down and started to work on the tunes the ideas just poured out from a hidden well. No writer’s block, more like writer’s monsoon.” Peter Pedersen – December 2018
A couple of aspects of Immortality make it different from its precursor Vemood. The melodies in these tunes are stronger and more developed with a slightly darker mood. The guitar player Fredrik Olsson has stepped more into the focus on this recording as he delivers some extraordinarily convincing and bluesy lines that stick like glue to the mind of the listener.
On Immortality the songs form a dramatic arc where Thee Who Emerge at Dawn begins the whole musical story, with a bright and gentle feeling which then leads into the smooth mysticism of Clairvoyant. This is followed by a mood change, where Quantum Suicide introduces a feeling best described as melancholy risk taking. Cyclopes and Pine Trees is a bonus track, found only on the CD release and displays a rougher, rockier edge. End of the Tracks is dedicated to the memory of guitarist Ola Molander, who suddenly and tragically died on December 1st, 2015. The grand finale, Intergalactic Explorations is a bold, explorative piece about turning our eyes out towards the universe; tentatively but with a great deal of hope for humanity’s future colonisation of space...
The story is due to continue in Cleaning the Mirror Vol.3
